Birthday is a glorious occasion. It fills joy in the heart of everyone, be it a child or an adult. This day is an epitome of celebration, a special time to celebrate the gift of “you” in the world. There is an aura of euphoria around as celebration bells keep chiming all day long.
According to a Pagan myth, evil spirits visit us on our Birthdays. Thus,the birthday celebrations has rituals like making noise during birthday parties. This is done to scare away the evil spirits. The party venue is made bright with candles, lamps, gala fires etc. People shower gifts on the Birthday person and impart their blessings.
As man started understanding the solar and lunar cycles, calendars were developed. This enabled them to keep a record of their Birth Date. Otherwise, it was a thing of honor to know about one's Birth Date. Only people belonging to royal families used to know about their birth date and had grand parties to celebrate it. It is generally believed, that the song is a successful effort of the joint work of two American Sisters – Mildred J Hill and Dr. Patty Smith Hill. The song that was originally composed by two sisters was entitled 'Good Morning to all' but bore the recognizable melody. Later the “ Happy birthday” rendition was introduced. In 1916, after the death of Mildred, Dr. Patty and her third sister won the copyright issue of the song. The family had the legal owner of the song. Today, its with Warner Communication.
